Independent Bitches (and the people that love them) is a mostly-female contingent of the larger Portland burner community. Its participants have been to the Playa anywhere from 3 to 12 times, and our recruitment strategy heavily values experienced participants who know the ins and outs of Black Rock City and its denizens.

Our philosophy is rooted in our arrival at a certain point in life, both chronological and burner-esque: we need no-one’s help, seek no-one’s approval, and have our own agenda. We have no need for predictability, opting instead to entertain our every whim and whimsy throughout the long and mercurial week.
